Newsela is a leveled reading program for students in grades 4 through high school students. It begins with news stories which are then rewritten to correspond to different levels of reading complexity. Each story is published at four different Lexile reading levels as well as in its original form. Newsela also provides quizzes for each article.
Because all students get a chance to absorb the same material teachers can lead class discussions on the article topics with all students, no matter what their reading level. The articles are timely and relevant because they are drawn from current news feeds.
At the moment the resource is free, but they will eventually charge a subscription fee.
