The Common Core reading standards states that students should be able to analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take.
ReadWorks have provided this free resource that can assist teachers in enhancing their repertoire of reading materials.
According to ReadWorks their, “paired texts enable students to grapple with themes, topics, and vocabulary that translate across texts. These set students up to make comparisons and contrasts, identify patterns, recognize vocabulary as it appears in different contexts, and build related funds of knowledge.”
I am an advocate for free resources and materials to assist educators in their quest to educate students. All too often we reach into our pockets to provide for students. Kudos to ReadWorks for maintaining free access to their materials.
